The purpose of annual teaching awards in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences is to recognize faculty members who effectively teach and inspire students to achieve excellence in their areas of study. Faculty who receive these awards will excel in the classroom and, except for adjunct faculty, will have a publication record commensurate with a commitment to lifelong learning and development within their discipline. The recognition will provide additional opportunities for these outstanding faculty members to mentor others. Recipients of these teaching awards will receive a one-time grant of $2,000 for salary.

Hickman Diversity and Inclusion Award
The purpose of the annual associate professor award in the college is to recognize faculty members who hold the rank of associate professor and have been strong teachers, scholars, and citizens. This award is intended to support faculty as they make meaningful progress toward becoming a full professor. Recipients of this award will receive a one-time salary stipend of $4,000 and a one-time $4,000 support award.
The awardee will be invited to present as part of the college diversity and inclusion lecture series. The faculty member can be nominated by the department or college, or by the college Diversity, Inclusion, and Collaboration committee (the latter of which will also be involved in selecting recipients). The faculty member recognized for this award will:
Engage in consistent teaching (including mentoring), research, and/or citizenship that strives to make a better world by promoting diversity or inclusion, as evidenced by one or more of the following
Teaching or research on diversity or inclusion that helps students to become informed citizens and thoughtful leaders in our global world
Research focused on diverse individuals, societies, or families
Mentoring or experiential learning that is inclusive of a diverse group of under-represented students
Teaching or research that promotes local or global citizenship, justice, or equality
Additional teaching, research, or citizenship efforts that promotes diversity or inclusion, broadly defined

Cutler Lecture
The Cutler award recognizes outstanding scholars in the college who contribute to understanding and strengthening family life. It is a one-time salary stipend of $5,000 and the faculty member presents the Cutler Lecture.

Hickman Lecture
The Hickman award recognizes an outstanding scholar in the college. It is a one-time salary stipend of $4,000 and an additional $3000 in research money and the faculty member presents the Hickman Lecture. All nominations should include a one-page letter of nomination from the department chair or chair of the department’s awards committee briefly summarizing the faculty member’s achievements and explaining why the faculty member deserves this honor. Nominations will be discussed by the College Awards Committee, which consists of a representative from each department. All university nomination materials should be submitted electronically to Sara Donakey (sara_donakey@byu.edu), due date specified by the College. Normally college deadlines will be similar to deadlines for University awards.
Administrative and Staff Employee Awards
The college Administrative Advisory Council offers three awards for the administrative and staff employees within the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. Faculty members are not eligible for these awards. Recipients of these awards need to have excelled in their service to their respective unit or the college and demonstrated at least one of the values listed below, as adopted by the President's Council. The awards are given annually and are announced at the college's fall meeting. Each award has a monetary prize associated with it.

Dean's Platinum Service Award
This award is for one full-time administrative or staff employee who has had at least five years of full-time experience within the college. Recipients will receive $1,000 and are only eligible for this award one time.

Excellence in Service Award
This award is for full- or part-time administrative or staff employees who have had at least three years of full- or part-time experience within the college. Recipients will receive $500 and are eligible for this award every five years.

Outstanding Rookie Award
This award is for full- or part-time administrative or staff employees who have worked at least a minimum of one year and no more than three years (at the time of nominations) within the college. Recipients will receive $250 and are only eligible for this award once.For the three administrative and staff employee awards, nominations are open during the PDP period (January and February) and are emailed to the Dean. The nomination letter should:

Identify how the nominee has excelled in their service during the award period
Identify at least one of the values listed above
Not exceed 500 words
The nomination letter as well as the PDP are taken into consideration for the selection of the recipients. Eligible candidates will be reviewed by the selection committee, which consists of the dean and associate deans in the college.
